Hi Everyone,

It's been three days already since we left Pisti's house. It sure was great to find such good hospitality. We've enjoyed the sausages and smoking the water pipe greatly. It's a shame we had to leave Hungary, because it has been a blast and a tremendous time. By now we've moved up about 300 km. As Pisti already wrote we've had really good weather. The sun was shining all 3 days.

Tuesday we left Domsod and cycled to Bugac, one of very few places with a camping site. We had dinner in a fancy restaurant near a manage and expected a big bill. But it seems prices are a bit lower in the south of Hungary. We also had our first serious issue with the tubeless tires. One of the tires had so many holes the sealant could not close the gaps anymore. We tried adding more of the sealant, but the problem was not only the sealant. The cause was the structure of the tire was demolished on the inside. We had to put another outer (and inner) tire on. Even though we left late (hangover, thanks Pisti ;) and had some gear issues we still managed to cover the required 88 km to get to the camping site.

Wednesday we were again a bit unlucky and the second tire problem arose. This time it was a serious hole in the outer tire, probably caused by a horseshoe's nail. This time we solved the issue by putting in an inner tube (the outer tire could still be used). So we are down to only two tubeless tires at the moment. It will probably be a matter of time before they fail as well. Other then that, the day was good and we had a visit to Szeged in the south of Hungary. The forth largest city of Hungary and a student town. We noticed that there were plenty of cyclepaths there, which was great for a change. We had not seen many in Austria/Slovak and Hungary. Szeged was flooded about a century ago. This was clear to see in the architecture, the whole centre was build in the same beautiful late 19th century stile. It was a nice place to see.

By now we have entered Romania and are already in Timisoara. First thing we noticed is that Romanians are suicidal maniacs when it comes to driving cars. Even worse then Hungarians ;) Other then that it's clear Romania is a lot poorer then Hungary. The houses are barely maintained. Finding places to sleep will probably be a challenge here. As Pisti mentioned almost no one speaks English and campsites seem hard to find. But we'll manage somehow ;) For tonight we are stuck in an expensive Hotel, camping in the wild seems a little bit to risky for us here in Romania.

Goodbye for now, we are off to find some dinner here it's getting kinda late...

Talk to you all soon...

    Marjel:

Erik, Tjeerd, very nice that you are meeting such friendly people such as Pisti on your tour around the world. I am sure you will find a solution for the tires. And that things will continue to go prosperous.

Have lots and lots of fun and new adventures!

    Cheers,
    Marjel

    Pisti:

It's a pity you have serious problems with your tubeless tires they look very professional tyres. Did you cross the border at Nagylak? It's also a pity you don't carry a GPS. If you would have then we could see your exact track you covered.

Timisoara's former Hungarian name is Temesvár. There live a huge Hungarian minority in that area. One of my friends told me once, Hungary is the only country in the World which is surrounded by former itself. :) Unfortunately Hungary was almost always on the loser side of wars. :(

I think you will head to south, so you won't climb the Carpatians which would be a hard job.

Have you already sent the CDs back to Holland?
    Good Luck!

    Pisti:

One important information about the area where you are. The Hungarians call it Erdély, but rest of the world calls it Transylvania. And you may know that Drakula was born in Transylvania, so be careful of drakulas and always have garlic on you. :)
