2087 Greetings from Dömsöd

30 Juli 2007 | Hongarije, Dömsöd

After Bratislava, Capital of Slovak, former Pozsony when it was Hungarian, we cycled further through Slovakia following the Donau, but slept across the river in Komaron wich is in Hungary.
We saw lots of beautiful women, but we have now clou were they went after midnight.
We don't recommend cycling here because the roads are really bad, and there are no signs. We really had a good help with the book called Donau-Radweg.
Saturday we slept in Szentendre which is a very lovely town just in the shadows of Budapest. After a quick bite we sat down for a drink in just the right place. It was the only nonfood establishment on the boulevard. Over there we met three lovely ladies who invited us to go and enjoy the nightlife of Budapest. We like to thank Lilla, Zsofia and Katalin for a wonderfull time at Buddhabeach.
Today, Monday, we looked for a campingsite south of Budapest in a place called, Dömsöd. We could not find the campingsite, because there was none apperently (the map had fooled us). But we were verry lucky to be invited by Hajnal István (Pisti). We could put up a tent in his garden and were even treated on some dutch radio and some very tasty beers. Along with a nice campfire and an internetconnetion from where we are writing this message at the moment. Weve included some pictures of him, the dog and us as well. So far Hungary has been great. Weve met very hospitable people and we are having a great time here. We will keep you all posted of our future adventures. Take care and Egészégedre...

    Kokkie:

    Tjeerd,

  • 31 Juli 2007 - 06:32

    Peter S.:

    Pisti:

    Hello Erik and Tjeerd,
You just left my site, I'm sure you will have a nice, sunny day today. It was a good night in spite of that I have a little hangover now. :) I'm glad to know you, I wish you Good Luck!
I couldn't find the uploaded photo about you when smoking my water pipe. It's a pity there is no english version of this website, my dutch is very poor. :)

    Keep on the good living

Soooooooo...Erik, you guys are really having fun, aren't you. 3 girls for 2 of you? Not too much? You are making friends everywhere. But the good thing is you do not forget us.By the way, how is the weather on the way? It's shitty weather in Rotterdam. Till today it's only around 15-20 degrees. Can you imagine that for summer?
Do you check your email? I can email you.
Ok, a lot of good luck on the way. We'll keep your tracks.

    Cheers,
    Ning & Olger

    Pisti:

Let me give you an advice.
As you go farer and farer from The Netherlands less and less people will speak dutch. If you want the people you meet keep informed then everybody should make posts in English. I was in Holland many times I know everybody speaks 3-4 languages. (You are lucky in this)

    Good Luck!

    Beste Avonturiers!
Enjoy it!!!
    groeten, Annemieke

    Gloria & Gerard:

Pisti: thanks for the pictures you made while Erik and Tjeerd were enjoying your hospitality. Of course we should all try and write in English, so that everybody can read what the others wrote.
If someone really wants to know what was written in Dutch, try www.freetranslation.com or www.babelfish.altavista.com
to translate the text into English for free. As an example: "Tjeerd, hoe gaat het met de haring in je bil" translates into:
"Tjeerd, how it goes with the herring in your buttock" because those silly computers do not know "haring" can also mean "tent peg"

    Pisti:

    Gloria & Gerard!
Thanks for that translation URL. I'm a little surprised about that there are usable translation sites. I'm a software engineer and I know how difficult problem is translating a sentence. But the science is improving, I may need to update my thoughts. :)
But, believe me, our friends will reach the eastern Hungarian border soon, after this border the conditions will change rapidly. Before January 1st 2007 this border was a EU border, but you may know that Romania and Bulgaria have joined the EU, but the conditions are them same since that time in the area. Erik and Tjeerd will have difficulties to find a person speaking on foreign languages even on the countryside.
So, the people they meet will not know about translation sites.

They told me that the rule is they update the blog in English and you answer in Dutch.

Anyway, they have already passed me and we may not meet again in life. I just wanted to make this project a little better.
    Bye,
    Pisti

p.s.: this site is in dutch, so I just think that the button "Plaats Reactia" is "Post Reply or Reation" :)

    Gloria @ Gerard:

Sorry for the previous reaction in threefold. The site kept complaining that my text contained spam-like text. It only accepted it after I got rid of the "hyper text transfer protocol"-part of the addresses and of the trailing slash. When my text was finally OK-ed, it was published in triple.

    Gloria & Gerard:

    Pisti!
You can buy acceptable translation software for about $50. I used that two years ago when we had to provide examples of reports we had written in English for a quotation. The output of the translation programme was not 100% to say the least, but it saved us a lot of time compared to translation by hand.

    Pisti:

    Gloria & Gerard!
I also had to type my post twice. I was quiet angry. Erik told me they can upload only 10 photos free to this site. So, if I were a programmer of owners of this site, then I wouldn't allow to post URL's where people can exchange photos.
This may be the reason. :)
Unfortunately, I couldn't understand the error message of site because it was in dutch. :-)

    Leon:

    Hello Erik and Tjeerd,

After several months I talked to my friend Pisti on msn today. He talked about your stay in his garden. Pisti visited me in 1999 in Amsterdam, together with his former girlfriend. We've been having contact ever since. It's nice to see Pisti back on pictures at your and his photo-site.

As a travel-addict (I just returned from a tremendous trip through Iran, the subject that triggered Pisti to talk about you) I'll make time to read about your bike experiences all over the world. A brave thing to discover the world on two weels. And of course I'm very curious about your stay in Iran.

    Good luck.

    Leon
