25 November 2007 | India, New Delhi

10 days already since our last message. So time for another update !

Well as you would have guessed we have indeed past the 10.000 km mark by now and are still not done in magical India. From Gohdra we went of for our day trip to Champaner as we mentioned in our last update. It was quite a nice ride to Champaner, but the site itself was a bit of a disappointment. Basically it was single mountain rising above the plains (a volcano) with a Hindu temple on top. It's a major pilgrim site for Hindus but the temple was not as impressive as we were hoping for. We also were not allowed to make any pictures there so we had to settle with some pictures of the view from the mountain. On the upside it was nice to be able to cycle without luggage for a change, we left all of it at the hotel in Gohdra ;)

the next day we were of for yet another direction: north and into Rajastan. We cycled through dessert like settings and were "forced" to make two very long days of 162 and 168 km. Not a very nice thing and sure a hard test for the muscles, but we did not have much choice. There was hardly any water or Hotels to be found on the way. But no worries a little dessert can't stop us ;)

In Udaipur we took a day of relaxing and looking around town. It's quite a relaxed little place and it does not feel like an overcrowded crazy town as some of the other places we have seen. For the first time in ages we were confronted again with busloads of tourists. Almost more westerners on the streets there are Indians :) We had a look at the Palace and the lake in Udaipur and it's indeed a very romantic place. to bad we were stuck with each other instead of having a beautiful lady each on our sides... ;) In the evening we got a nice surprise as John, whom we travelled with in Iran, suddenly showed up on our doorstep. We decided to travel together again for a couple of days and headed of the next day towards Ranakpur. After making a 25 km detour, thanks to some Indian roadworkers, with the brilliant mind to create a diversion for a few kilometers making us miss a t-junction :( (why put up a sign right?) Well, we did manage to find the road we needed to Ranakpur so it all worked out well in the end. We made it just before dark into the town. We slept at the temple site itself which was a very nice experience.

The next morning we had an early start to look at the Jain temples and it was worth the detour. We made some nice pictures and spend a good few hours admiring the temples. After that it was back to the road again. No punishment at all, because it was a nice, quite and scenic route. Except for a few punctures it was a very nice day. We are experiencing a bit of "puncture madness" lately with 5 punctures in 5 days!! Bringing our total to 23 punctures so far!!! We arrived in 3 days from Udaipur to Ajmer as planned. Perfect because John had agreed to meet up with Judith and Andre again (with whom we also cycled back in Iran) and we all met in Ajmer.

The next day was spend in Pushkar. It was amazingly crowded because the yearly camel fair was on. Lots of merchandise for sale, but disappointingly few camels to be found. We expected to see a few more. The cues for the temples were insane, so we decided to take a rain check on that.

After Ajmer/Pushkar it was yet again time to move on, this time the goal was Jaipur. We cycled this 130 km in a nice and easy two days taking it a little easy for a change and enjoying some quality time and dinners with John, Judith and Andre. We just arrived in Jaipur and will be doing some sightseeing here. Today we'll look into the old "pink" town and tomorrow we head of to the fort. It's conveniently located on top of a hill, sometimes we think those darn Maharajahs did it just to tease us... ;) We've been told that you can take elephant rides from the base to the top. So we might do that... It's either that or a race between the elephants and us ;)

Well that's it again, the weather is way to nice to keep sitting in this internetcafe ;)

All the best from Erik and Tjeerd

and some snapshots again as well...

    Gerard En Gloria:

It's good to see your faces again! The drawings on your hands look beautiful. It is difficult though to get rid of when you're bored with it, I have experienced.I like the caps;if they are available it would be something for us, now we're heading to winter cold. Guess they are folded out of one big scarf. How colourful is the scene in the streets and how special! The winter has started in India too. If you are climbing in the moutains, you will need warm equipment, what a change! Keep going strong and good luck.

    Hi Eric,

It has been some time since CBS and our drive in Norway. I find myself so amazed at your grand adventure and I'm very jealous. I find myself needing some adventure from time to time.

I stumbled across your website after a facebook connection with Det Klee.

Good luck with the rest of the trip... I'll stay up-to-date with your your adventure as I blow my days at such inane activity as work!

    Your friend from Toronto, Canada,

    Mike Brock
